Six things your scale doesn't say

{ Friday, November 16, 2007 }

  1. "You've been a bad girl."

  2. "You're a failure."

  3. "Nobody can love you."

  4. "You've been a good girl."

  5. "You're succeeding."

  6. "You should be happy now."

The scale doesn't say any of these things. These are messages we have learned to attach to numbers. The scale can't tell you who you are or why anything about you is the way it is. Your scale can't tell you what you deserve in life, or what you have to give, or how much others look up to you or love you.

The scale tells us our weights. Any other message is one we're telling ourselves.
